R.I.P. Hector Macho Camacho 1962-2012
Hector Macho Camacho 1962-2012
Charcoal Drawing 19"x 24"
Today I woke up with the need to draw a portrait of World Champion boxer Macho Camacho. After hearing yesterday the news of no hope on his fight for life, after he was shot last Tuesday. I asked myself these days, why is it that his personality would attract us so much? Since I was very young in the 80's, I grew up watching his fights, interviews and adventures, and with all the characteristics he had that made him the unique person he was, with all the changes he made to the sport of boxing, it was mainly that he was a sincere and humble man, but above all, he had a great heart, and the World (through boxing) and the Spanish speaking World specially recognized this and he was very much loved.
Here I have portrayed him in his younger years, my interpretation. With it I couldn't exclude certain nostalgia for this great loss. He was always GREAT, and he will be, not only when he was young, like many believe, because he couldn't give all his potential in boxing later on due to his life decisions and circumstances. No one can't deny that every time we saw Camacho on TV we were struck by his sincerity and energy for life.
Thank you Macho for all the years that you gave us. My condolences to the family.
What time is it? Is Macho Time!!!
